Introduce yourself: I am Mrs Perera. I am your English teacher. Point to pupils: This is Nimal. He is in Grade 6. They are friends. Build the chart: I – am; he / she / it – is; we / you / they – are.

Read the role play in pairs. Chain drill: each pupil says I am ... and introduces the next pupil. Do Activity 7 (am, is or are) and check with a partner.

Groups of three write and act a short first-day meeting, using am, is and are at least five times.
