Privacy Policy

Effective date: 14 September 2026. The short version: this website does not collect anything about you while you read and practise. Some choices are kept on your own device, and details you choose to send when buying are used only for that purchase. The longer version is below.

What this website collects

You can read every lesson, worksheet and past paper on this site without giving your name, your email address or your telephone number, and without creating an account.

This site does carry advertising, supplied by Google AdSense, and advertising involves cookies and information about your device. What that means is set out under Advertising below, including how to turn personalised advertising off.

It does use Google Analytics to count visits, which sets cookies in your browser, as explained under Visitor statistics below.

Visitor statistics

To find out which lessons and resources are used, and which need improving, this site uses Google Analytics, a statistics service provided by Google.

What it collects: the pages you view and how long you stay, the website or search that brought you here, the general type of device, browser and screen, your approximate location (such as country and city), and a random identifier so that return visits can be counted. Google receives your IP address in order to work out the approximate location; Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.

Cookies: Google Analytics stores cookies whose names begin with _ga in your browser. They do not contain your name or contact details. Unless you clear them, they last for up to two years.

What RCF English sees: reports of totals, such as how many people viewed a page or which countries visitors came from. RCF English cannot identify you from these reports, does not combine them with any other information about you, and does not use them for advertising.

Google's own use of this information is explained on its page How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

If you prefer not to be counted: block or delete cookies in your browser settings, use a content blocker, or install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Every page works exactly the same without it.

Sponsored listings

Tuition classes and courses run by other people can be advertised on this site as paid listings. Every one of them is clearly marked Sponsored, and paid listings are kept in their own section, never mixed into the free lessons or resources.

These listings are plain text and pictures written into the site. They are not served by an advertising network. Nothing about you is sent to an advertiser, no advertising cookie is set, and what you see does not change according to who you are or what you have looked at before.

RCF English does not endorse an advertiser by accepting a listing. Anything you arrange with one is between you and them.

Advertising

Advertisements on this site are supplied by Google AdSense. They appear only in the spaces marked Advertisement, between sections of a page. They never appear inside a lesson, inside a worksheet, beside a download button, or on the pages made for young children.

What Google does. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technology to serve advertisements and, where you have allowed it, to make them relevant to you based on your previous visits to this and other websites. RCF English does not receive your browsing history and cannot identify you from anything an advertiser does.

  • Turning personalised advertising off: visit Google's Ads Settings or, in Europe and the United Kingdom, use the consent choice you are shown on this site. You will still see advertisements, but they will not be based on your interests.
  • Third-party cookies: your browser can refuse them. Every part of this site keeps working without advertising cookies.
  • More detail: how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Advertising and children

The Primary Game Zone and the other pages written for young children carry no advertising at all. That is a deliberate choice, not an accident of what happened to fill: the advertising spaces are placed page by page, and none are placed there.

Buying books, resources and advertising

Books, resource collections, advertising and class fees are at present paid for by bank transfer, arranged directly with RCF. The site shows you the account details and what to write on the transfer; your bank handles the payment, not this website.

No payment is processed on this website at present. There is no checkout, no payment gateway and no card processing. You will never be asked on this site for a card number, an online-banking password, a PIN, a one-time code or an identity-document number, and you should never enter one anywhere on it.

Because a static website cannot verify a deposit, every payment is checked by a person. You send the receipt through WhatsApp, and what you send in that message reaches RCF through WhatsApp rather than through this site.

Information you give when you buy

To confirm a payment and deliver a product, RCF Publications needs a few details from you, such as your name, the WhatsApp number or email address the product should be sent to, and your payment receipt or reference.

These details are used only to confirm your payment, deliver what you bought, answer questions about the purchase and handle any request under the Refund and Return Policy. They are not sold, and they are not shared with anyone except where needed to complete the purchase, such as your bank or a payment provider.

Online payment providers

If online payment through a provider such as PayHere is introduced, your card or account details will be entered on the provider's own secure payment page and processed by that provider under its own privacy terms. RCF Publications will not see or store your card details. This policy will be updated before any such payment method is made available.

Purchases are also covered by the Terms and Conditions of RCF Publications.

Interactive activities and tools

The quizzes, listening tests, writing practice, worksheet generator, flashcard maker, study timetable and examination timer run entirely inside your own browser. What you type and how you answer are not transmitted anywhere, and visitor statistics do not record your answers. The one exception is speech recognition on the Speaking Practice page, explained below. No one, including RCF English, can see your answers.

Some of these tools keep your progress or your work on your device so that it is there when you come back, as described in the next section.

Speaking practice and speech recognition

The Speaking Practice, IELTS Mock Speaking Test and Conversation Partner pages, and the role-play buttons on spoken English conversations, use your browser's own speech recognition to turn what you say into text. Your voice goes to your browser's maker, not to RCF English.

When you press Start speaking, your browser asks for permission to use the microphone. While you speak, Chrome and Microsoft Edge send the sound of your voice to Google, and Safari sends it to Apple, which send back the words. Their own privacy policies apply to that. RCF English never receives your voice, a recording or the words.

The page explains this and asks you to confirm before you use it for the first time. It keeps a short summary of your recent attempts (the date, the question, the number of words and the speaking speed) in your own browser so you can see your progress, and you can clear it on the page at any time. This site keeps no recording of your voice anywhere.

Nothing is heard unless you press Start speaking, and recognition stops when you press Stop, when the time limit is reached or when you leave the page.

What is kept on your device

To remember your choices without an account, the site saves a small amount of information in your browser's own storage (known as local storage). It stays on the device you are using. It is not sent to RCF English or to anyone else, and it is not shared with your other devices. It can include:

  • the grade you chose on My RCF English, the pages you saved, and the pages you viewed recently
  • your stars and best scores in the interactive activities, and your chosen support level
  • drafts in Writing Practice, words typed into the flashcard maker, and your study timetable
  • an examination date you entered for the countdown
  • your reading options (text size, high contrast, spacing) and your preferred listening accent and sound settings

Offline copies

So that pages you have already opened can be read without a connection, your browser also keeps copies of those pages and of the site's style and script files. These are ordinary website files, not information about you, and they are replaced automatically when the site is updated.

Removing it

You can remove everything the site has saved with the Clear everything saved on this device button on My RCF English, or by clearing this website's data in your browser settings. Using a private or incognito window means nothing is kept after you close it.

Forms, WhatsApp and email

Because there is no server behind this website, the contact forms cannot send anything. What they do instead is write your message for you and hand it to WhatsApp or to your own email program, where you press send.

That means the message travels through WhatsApp or through your email provider, and their own privacy terms apply to it, not ours. Please do not include information in such a message that you would not want to share.

Any message you do send is used only to answer you.

Hosting and links to other websites

This website is published through GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub processes the requests your browser makes in order to deliver the pages, and its own terms govern that processing. RCF English does not receive or keep any of it.

RCF English links to other websites — chiefly official examination sources, where a paper is linked rather than copied. Once you follow such a link you are on a different website, with its own privacy practices. Links that leave this site are marked, and open in a new tab. Some official Sri Lankan government sites are served over plain HTTP rather than HTTPS; where that is so, the link is marked. RCF Publications is not an external link: it is a section of this website.

Children

Much of this material is intended for school students. Since nothing is collected from anybody while they use the site, nothing is collected from children either. No account can be created, and no personal detail is requested anywhere on the site. Progress and choices a child makes are kept only on the device they are using. Purchases and class registrations are arranged by an adult through WhatsApp and a bank transfer, away from this website.

Changes and questions

If this policy changes, the new version replaces this page and the effective date at the top is updated.

If you have a question about privacy, or would like details you sent when buying, or a message you sent us, to be deleted, please contact us through the Contact page, by email at rcfdegreenotes@gmail.com, or on WhatsApp at 070 439 5240.
