Our Online Communities

Approximately a decade ago, when online educational resources were far less widely available and artificial intelligence had not yet transformed the creation and distribution of learning materials, Rohana Fernando established several Facebook groups devoted to English learning and teaching.

These communities provided teachers and learners with access to educational materials, professional guidance and opportunities to exchange knowledge. For many members — particularly those with limited access to books, training and other educational support — the resources shared through these groups became a valuable source of assistance.

Recognising the need for more immediate professional support, he later created exclusive Telegram and WhatsApp resource groups for English teachers. Through these communities, teachers can obtain useful materials, exchange ideas and receive timely guidance relating to classroom teaching, lesson preparation, assessment and other professional needs.

These initiatives reflect a continuing commitment to using available technology to connect educators, share knowledge and make helpful resources more widely accessible.

A messaging group is excellent for immediate help and poor at keeping anything. A worksheet shared in a group on Monday is unreachable by Friday, and a teacher who joins next year never sees it at all.

RCF English exists to hold that material properly: arranged by subject, by task and by level, searchable, and available to anyone without joining anything.

The website represents a continuation and expansion of work that began in classrooms and developed through Facebook, Telegram and WhatsApp educational communities.
