What this collection actually contains

18 papers, from 2018, 2019, 2021, 2024, 2025 and 2026: ten from provincial departments, six from zonal offices and two from schools. By term, that is five first-term, seven second-term and two third-term papers, and there are also a marking scheme, a model answer and a question bank.

The files are not stored on this website. Each paper opens in Google Drive. View the paper reads it in your browser; Download PDF saves it. Nothing is copied onto this site.

More papers are still being checked. A paper is added only after somebody has opened the file and confirmed what is in it, so this list grows slowly and will keep growing.

Using a Grade 8 paper well

Grade 8 is the last year before the two that lead directly to the O/L examination, and it is the best year to fix habits that are expensive to fix later.

  • Find the weakness, then use the question bank rather than another whole paper. Ten questions of the type that is costing marks are worth more than a fourth complete paper.
  • Read the model answer after attempting the question, never before. Compare the shape of the answer with your own: where the point is made, how much detail is given, how long the introduction really is.
  • Write to the length asked for. Grade 8 is where students start writing too much and losing marks for it. If a question says a paragraph, a page is not generous, it is off the point.
  • Sit one paper under proper time each term. Not more: the information from a timed paper is only useful if there is time to act on it before the next one.
