About RCF English
What is RCF English?
RCF English is an educational platform that brings together English-language learning, literature education, examination support, teacher resources, online classes and links to educational publications in one place.
Who is it for?
School students, O/L and A/L learners, adult English learners, private candidates, schoolteachers, tuition teachers and parents. Particular attention is given to learners who need additional guidance, including those in rural and remote areas.
Who runs it?
RCF English was founded by Rohana Fernando, an experienced English teacher and lecturer. His qualifications and background are set out on the Academic and Professional Background page.
Does it cost anything?
No. Everything on this website is free to read and use. Books and study guides are sold separately through RCF Publications, which is a different website with its own ordering arrangements.
Is RCF English connected to any government body?
No. RCF English is an independent educational platform. It is not endorsed by, approved by or affiliated with any government department or examination authority, and it makes no claim to be.
Lessons and resources
Which subjects are covered?
O/L English, O/L English Literature, General English and A/L English Literature, together with past papers, teacher resources and interactive practice.
Why can I not find a past paper I am looking for?
Because RCF English publishes only what it is entitled to publish. A paper appears here if RCF English created it, if the copyright holder has permitted its distribution, if it has been personally approved, or if it can lawfully be linked from the official source. Papers that do not meet one of these tests are not published, even if copies of them exist elsewhere.
Are the model answers official answers?
No. Model answers on this site are written by RCF English to show how an answer can be built and why it works. They are teaching material, not official marking scheme answers, and they are not the only acceptable answers.
Can I use this material in my classroom?
Yes, for teaching. Material created by RCF English may be used and printed for classroom and study purposes with acknowledgement. Please do not republish it as your own or sell it. See the Terms of Use.
Are complete poems, stories and plays reproduced here?
No. Copyrighted literary texts are not reproduced in full. RCF English provides summaries, analysis, themes, character notes, questions and model answers, with short quotations where they are needed for study and criticism.
Interactive activities
Do the activities record my answers?
No. The activities run entirely inside your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere, nothing is saved once you close the page, and no personal information is collected.
Do they work on a telephone?
Yes. All the activities are designed for touch as well as for a mouse and a keyboard, including the sentence-ordering activity, which uses buttons rather than dragging.
Can I do an activity more than once?
Yes. Every activity has a Start again button, and repeating an activity a few days later is one of the most useful things you can do.
RCF Online Academy
How do I join a class?
Choose a class, contact RCF Online Academy on WhatsApp, and you will be sent the schedule, fee and availability information. Registration is confirmed by the teacher; it is not automatic.
Why are the days, times and fees not shown on the website?
Because they change, and publishing an out-of-date schedule helps nobody. Where a detail has not been settled, the site says so honestly. Ask on WhatsApp and you will be told what currently applies.
Are the classes online or in a classroom?
Classes are conducted mainly online, which allows students in any part of the country to attend.
What do I need in order to attend?
A device with an internet connection, a notebook and a pen. Spoken English classes also need a working microphone.
RCF Publications
What is RCF Publications?
RCF Publications is the publishing and bookshop division associated with RCF English. It produces practical educational books, English support materials, literature study guides, grammar resources and examination-revision materials.
Is it part of this website?
Yes. RCF Publications is a section of this website, kept separate from the free material so that paid and free resources are never confused.
How do I buy a book?
Choose the title, then follow the payment instructions on the page. Payment is by bank transfer, and you send the receipt through WhatsApp. No payment is processed on this website and no card details are ever requested.
