What is in here
There are 46 games here across 8 themed units, about 2.6 hours of play in all, covering the eight Grade 3 themes - yourself, your home, your school, food, animals, clothes, play, and the world around you.
Everything is free, needs no account, and works on a phone. There is no advertising anywhere in the Game Zone.
The games follow the themes of the Sri Lankan Pupil's Book for the grade, so a child plays the words they are meeting in class that term.
What it practises
- Talking about yourself: I'm ... I'm seven. I live in ... This is my ... - the questions a child is asked first, and often cannot answer.
- He and she, which Sinhala and Tamil speakers mix up for years unless it is practised early.
- Numbers, and reading short written words rather than only matching pictures.
Getting the most from it
Grade 3 is where reading starts to matter. Let the child read the word aloud before tapping, even when tapping the picture would be quicker. The extra two seconds are the whole point.
What comes next
Grade 3 is the year reading begins to carry the weight. When a child can read the words in these games without looking at the pictures, they are ready for Grade 4, where sentences have to be built rather than chosen.
For written practice alongside the games, the primary English pages have worksheets for the same themes.
