What is in here
There are 27 games here across 10 topics, about 1.5 hours of play in all, covering ten topics for a learner who knows some words and is starting to put them together: home, school, clothes, weather, transport, action words, feelings, opposites, singular and plural, and rhyme.
The level is CEFR A1. Everything is free, needs no account, and works on a phone.
What it practises
- Very short sentences, not just words: this is the level where a cat becomes the cat is sleeping.
- Opposites and plurals, the two patterns that let a learner double their vocabulary without learning new words.
- Rhyme, which sounds like a game and is really pronunciation practice: a learner who hears that cat and hat end the same is hearing English sounds properly.
Getting the most from it
If a learner finds a topic easy, skip it. The topics do not have to be played in order, and time spent on words already known is time not spent on the next set.
What comes after this level
Next is elementary, which introduces the small grammar words - a, an, the, pronouns and prepositions - that decide whether a sentence sounds like English.
If singular and plural or opposites are still being guessed at, stay here: those two patterns are worth more than a new set of words.
