The elocution diplomas
Does RCF Online Academy award the elocution diplomas?
No. The Primary Elocution Teachers' Diploma and the Associate Diploma are set, examined and awarded by CALSDA, the Colombo Association of Language Skills and Dramatic Art. RCF Online Academy conducts preparatory courses for those examinations.
Is RCF Online Academy an official representative of CALSDA?
No. It is not a representative, agent or branch of CALSDA and does not speak for it. Its founder is an Associate Member of CALSDA, which is a membership and not an office.
How long are the courses?
Both elocution courses run for six months.
Does the course enter me for the CALSDA examination?
No. The course prepares you for the examination. Entering it is arranged by you with CALSDA.
What are the entry requirements?
Entry requirements for the examinations are set by CALSDA, and candidates should confirm them with CALSDA directly. This website does not state them, because they are not ours to state.
Which of the two courses should I take?
Say what you have already done and you will be advised honestly. Being pointed at the right course matters more than filling a place in the wrong one.
The Literature courses
Which grades are covered?
Grade 9, Grade 10, Ordinary Level and Advanced Level.
Do I need my own copies of the prescribed texts?
Yes. Copyrighted literary texts are not reproduced on this website or supplied with a course.
Is written work corrected?
Yes. Individual correction of written work is one of the main emphases of every course.
Why start Literature in Grade 9?
Most students who struggle at Ordinary Level are not short of ability; they arrive having read texts but never having been shown how an answer is built. A year spent on those habits first makes the two that follow much easier.
Registering, schedules and fees
How do I register?
Choose a course, then use the registration page or a WhatsApp button. You will be sent the schedule, fee and availability information. Registration is confirmed by the teacher; it is not automatic.
Why are the days, times and fees not published?
Because they change, and an out-of-date timetable helps nobody. Times are also sometimes arranged around the students who want a particular course. Where nothing has been settled, this site says so rather than inventing a schedule.
Is any payment taken on this website?
No payment is processed on this website. Fees are paid by bank transfer using the instructions on the class-fees panel, and the receipt is sent through WhatsApp. Never enter card details, passwords, PINs or one-time codes anywhere on this site.
Can I join in the middle of a course?
It depends on the course and how far it has gone. The elocution courses run as a six-month sequence, so joining late is more difficult. Ask, and you will be told honestly.
How the courses work
Are the courses online?
Yes. All courses are conducted online, which allows students anywhere in the country to attend.
What do I need in order to attend?
A device with an internet connection, a notebook and a pen. The elocution courses also need a working microphone, since the work is spoken. Literature courses need the prescribed texts.
What if my internet connection is weak?
Mention it when you enquire. It is a common situation and better discussed in advance than discovered in the first class.
Will I be sent a meeting link?
Joining instructions are sent privately once your place is confirmed. Links and passwords are never published on this website.
Can examination results be guaranteed?
No, and nobody honest will guarantee them. Results depend on the candidate's own work. What the courses provide is clear teaching, guided practice, individual correction and regular revision.
Who teaches the courses?
All seven courses are taught by Rohana Fernando. His qualifications are set out on the Our Staff page.
