What is in here

There are 66 games here across 16 themed units, about 3.6 hours of play in all, covering the sixteen themes of the Grade 1 year - the school, the home, animals in the garden, water, the sky, food and drink, transport, light, and the people who help us.

Everything is free, needs no account, and works on a phone. There is no advertising anywhere in the Game Zone.

The games follow the themes of the Sri Lankan Pupil's Book for the grade, so a child plays the words they are meeting in class that term.

What it practises

  • First words, with pictures. Every word is shown as a picture before it is shown as writing, so a child who cannot yet read can still play.
  • Greeting and naming. Hello, I'm ... What's your name? Thank you. Good morning. - said, heard and matched, not written.
  • Colours, shapes and first sounds, which are what Grade 1 spends its year on.

Getting the most from it

A six-year-old works best in one short go. One topic, five minutes, then stop while it is still fun. Coming back tomorrow teaches far more than pushing on today.
